Q In the novel, "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe points out various artistic and cultural text which presents the “colonial experience from an African perspective” (Achebe 299). The idea was presented through the power of the literature in Achebe’s literature text. For example, the artistic personality of Achebe is portrayed through the literature. The culture and languages presented in this novel makes you aware. “He was not only brought up in a Christian family, and thus identified with European culture, his early education was in Church schools” (Gikandi 301). I though the influence of the bible played a key role because Achebe went to a Christian school where he also applied his Christian moral. Achebe’s religion as a Christian was reflected in his literature. The colonialism has affected the traditions in Nigeria and around the world. “Obi’s grandfather, Okonkwo in Things Fall Apart, dies trying to prevent Christianity from taking root in the clan. At his death, he is alienated from the very tradition he had labored so much to uphold.” (Okere 312, Achebe and Christianity). It presents that he was trying to protect his culture and avoid westernization. The cultural context in the writing had a distinctive artistic feature of Achebe. For example, Okonkwo’s hangs himself at the end because when the white men took over the village, he wanted the freedom from the colonizers, but not many people supported him in the village. The cultural text was portrays as the fight for the “freedom.”
